Ullico Recognizes Craig Arneson with “2023 Richard L. Trumka Award for Employee Excellence”

May 22, 2023

Ullico recognized Craig Arneson, Vice President of P&C, as the recipient of the “2023 Richard L. Trumka Award for Employee Excellence” during the company’s 2023 Annual Shareholders Meeting.

Trumka, the award’s namesake, passed away in August 2021 after a lifetime devoted to organized labor. In addition to his role as the AFL-CIO president from 2009-2021, he was a member of the Ullico board of directors for 18 years. Ullico established the Richard L. Trumka award to honor his contributions to the company and the union movement more broadly.

“Richard L. Trumka embodied Ullico’s commitment to working people. His leadership helped working Americans enjoy better futures through collective bargaining, safe working conditions, fair wages, and secure retirements,” said Edward M. Smith, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Ullico Inc.

A Passion for Innovation That Serves Unions

For his ability to implement innovative new solutions for union members, Craig Arneson received the 2023 Richard L. Trumka Award. Coworkers cite his impressive track record and skill at keeping long-term projects on track while deftly responding to daily tasks.

Arneson joined Ullico in 2006 as a Union Liability Underwriter before transitioning to Operations. In 2022, he took the helm of Ullico Casualty Group’s Construction Risk program, which has meant learning additional lines of business and working closely with building trades professionals. His efforts have led to successful implementation of new products and services, including the Alternative Dispute Resolution program at JFK’s New Terminal One.

“I’m very honored to receive this award. I will always try to be of service to the labor movement and make an impact through my position at Ullico,” said Arneson.

Rich Trumka, Jr. presented the award to Arneson, noting, “It is a true honor to my father that an award sharing his name goes to recognize someone with the same passion that he valued above all else — finding innovative ways to best serve union members. This award means a lot to my family. My dad was really proud of ‘Labor’s Company’ and was always excited to brainstorm ways that Ullico could best serve union members.”
