In recognition of the important role ULLICO Inc. plays in serving the needs of the union workplace, and its ongoing partnership and support of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), the organization recently named ULLICO Inc. its 2010 Company of the Year.
In accepting the award on behalf of ULLICO, President Ed Smith addressed the dignitaries gathered, including renowned Labor leader and longtime CBTU President William Lucy, and U.S. Representatives Charles Rangel (NY) and Barbara Lee (CA). "We are pleased to support the efforts of the CBTU. The mission of ULLICO is deeply rooted in the mission of the Labor movement, and the work of the CBTU is central to what the Labor movement is about...... fighting for and protecting the rights of all workers," said Smith.
ULLICO provides financial services, education programs, and more to help the CBTU fulfill its mission of ensuring equality and the well-being of union members and their families. This year, ULLICO will serve as the Leadership Sponsor of the CBTU's annual International Convention in Detroit, Mich., advancing the reach of the organization to its constituency.
The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists is an AFL-CIO-affiliated non-profit organization advancing the cause of African American unionized workers across North America.
